The Beginning
The inspiration for starting a 501(c)(3) named Letters from Liza began with a letter from a friend.
Elsie is 95 years old, currently residing in Arizona, twice widowed with no children. I first met Elsie
when I was 12 years old and my family went to visit her at her home in Chicago. Elsie and my mom,
Thelma, were riveting partners at Douglas Aircraft during WWII. Elsie and Thelma kept in touch all
those years. When Thelma passed in 2016, I continued a friendship with Elsie by writing to her frequently.
Dear Liza,
I think of you quite often. I have 6 envelopes of things you have sent me since the first of the year. I have kept every one of them and today I’ve decided to reread them and answer them. I appreciate the fact that you think of me and love the things you have sent.
